When Old Insulation Needs to Come Out
Insulation is supposed to do its job quietly for years. Once moisture, pests, smoke or dust get into it, though, it stops protecting your home or building and starts holding onto problems instead. Adding more on top only covers them up.
Clark Spray Foam removes fiberglass, batt, cellulose and spray foam insulation from attics, walls and crawl spaces in homes and commercial buildings across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. We never subcontract, and owner Michael Clark is on every job.
Most removal projects end with new insulation, so you get a clean space and better performance in one project instead of two.

Common Reasons to Remove Insulation
Any one of these can be reason enough to take old insulation out instead of working around it.
Mold or Mildew
Insulation soaked by a roof leak, plumbing leak or high humidity can develop mold or mildew. Removing the affected material is the cleanest way to deal with it.
Rodents and Insects
Rodents and insects tunnel through insulation, nest in it and leave droppings behind. Contaminated insulation should come out rather than be covered over.
Smoke and Pet Odors
Insulation absorbs odors from smoke and pets, and the smell can linger long after the source is gone. Taking it out removes the material holding the odor.
Dust and Allergens
Older insulation collects dust and allergens over the years. Replacing it can mean fewer allergens and dust in your space.
Renovations
Remodels and additions often expose or disturb existing insulation. Removing it gives the project a clean starting point and a chance to upgrade.
Energy Upgrades
If you’re moving to spray foam or a higher R-value, clearing out tired, underperforming insulation lets the new system start from a clean slate.
How Insulation Removal Works
Every building is different, but our removal process follows the same four steps.
Inspect
We look at the insulation, the space around it and any signs of what caused the damage. Then we explain what needs to come out and what we recommend putting back.
Remove
Our crew takes out the old insulation along with any debris or nesting material mixed in with it. We work carefully and keep the job site clean.
Prepare the Space
With the old material gone, we clear the area so it’s ready for new insulation. If a leak or pest entry point caused the problem, this is the time to get it fixed.
Reinsulate
We install new spray foam or fiberglass suited to the space and your goals, so the area is fully insulated again.

Attics, Walls, Crawl Spaces and Commercial Buildings
Attics deal with intense heat, roof leaks and rodents, so they’re a frequent source of damaged insulation. Our attic insulation removal page covers the signs and steps specific to that space.
Walls are usually cleared during a renovation, when the drywall is already open. It’s the right moment to replace old batts before the walls are closed back up.
Crawl spaces can hold insulation that sags, absorbs moisture or becomes a nesting spot for pests. Removing it clears the way for new insulation that fits the space.
Commercial projects such as office renovations, apartment buildings and convenience stores get the same careful approach. We talk through access and work areas before we start, so you know what to expect.
Reinsulating With Spray Foam or Fiberglass
Removal is the best time to rethink what goes back in. In Northeast Florida’s hot, humid climate, where the AC air handler and ductwork often sit in the attic, the type of insulation you choose makes a real difference.
Spray foam insulation insulates and air-seals in one step, reduces the risk of mold and humidity problems, and won’t shift, settle or deteriorate over time. It can save up to 50% on energy costs, and on the underside of the roof deck it brings the attic and its AC equipment inside the conditioned space.
Fiberglass insulation, in batts or blown in, restores R-value on attic floors and in open walls. It doesn’t stop air movement on its own, and air sealing matters as much as R-value, so we’ll talk through both.

Hired to remove attic insulation because of a mold problem and all of the insulation had to go. The mold was remediated by another company and then Clark came back and reinstalled new insulation. Unfortunantly a worker accidentally stepped on a brittle pipe in the attic and flooded the house. They turned off the water and cleaned up as quickly as possible. However the additional water damaged our hardwood floors. Their insurance paid for new hardwood to be installed. It was an unfortunate accident but they were quick to help to get the water damage corrected. After all the mold & water remediation was completed they returned and resprayed the full attic insulation. They were understanding, professional and kind as I had been pretty upset. We are happy to have new insulation and would highly recommend them. Very caring and did great work. What more could you want.Posted on Google![]()

From start to finish you felt like you were dealing with a small company which in my opinion are the best. On time for their appointments and and seamless paperwork. On the day of installation, they were on time at my house then their crew worked their asses off for 10.5 hours. Left my place just they found it in the morning. I am beyond pleased with the work of this company.Posted on Google![]()

No more wondering what a great spray foam job will do for your comfort. In the months leading up to Clark Spray Foam replacing our attic insulation, peak temperatures in the garage were over 100°. You can only imagine the attic temperatures were at least 15° higher over the entire house. After removing the blown in over just the living spaces and encapsulating the entire attic including the garage and rear porch, peak temperatures in the garage have dropped to below 85°. Surface measurements in the attic match. The whole house feels cooler and we even experience morning condensation on the outside of the windows proving the insulation is doing its job. Clark Spray Foam was prompt, professional and when an equipment failure delayed completing the work in one day, Mike called and scheduled the completion the very next morning.Posted on Google![]()

We had been having major trouble with our brand new AC unit keeping up on really hot days on the second floor. Like having the thermostat set for 73 but it being 78 or higher upstairs. The spray foam installation from Clark Spray Foam has made a huge difference and our new AC unit is working as it should now! Their estimator was great and answered all of my questions and concerns and the guys on the day of the job were very professional. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

Great staff starting with Sonia who you speak to initially to set up appointments. Then the estimated comes out, think Josh but not sure. Then the two workmen, Malaki and another nice young man. They did a great job at a competitive price. Now, waiting to see improvement in my electric bill. Thanks to all the nice, competent people at Clark’s insulation!Posted on Google![]()

Everyone from this company was very professional and easy to work with. In North Florida I’m used to contractors showing up, fixing something , creating a huge mess and then just leaving the mess in my house. This company was the total opposite!! it was refreshing to have a friendly sales rep and also working with professional office management. The crew did a great job! I am excited to cut back on AC and heating costs with this new spray foam insulation. Everyone was efficient, effective, and reliable.Posted on Google![]()

What a difference spray foam made in insulating our home. In the hottest part of the day, the house stays cool now. We were on the fence between more blown in or spray on. This company knew how much better spray on was as well as the concerns about open and closed cell spray on. Incredibly hot up in our attic and yet they completed the job in two days. I have a lower pitch roof and the 1950 addition had difficult access. We worked together and found a solution to get the job done. I can’t wait to see the savings on my next electric bill. I imagine that i will recover the cost in under two years… if not sooner. I am very happy that I chose Clark spray on!Posted on Google![]()

No matter what I tried my house always felt hot upstairs. Had my attic spray foamed in the summer. I have a large barn style house 5600 ft.² with a cedar lap board ceilings. They removed all of the fiberglass insulation and spray foamed the attic. The employees that I met from the actual sprayers to the laborers and the assistant that came to pick up the check, were all fantastic and personable. Everything did not go as planned, but all of the obstacles were handled professionally and they billed the original contract price. I stayed at a hotel a couple of days, the manufacturer recommends 24 hours dry time.Posted on Google![]()

Clark Spray Foam did an outstanding job insulating both our attic with open-cell spray foam and our crawlspace with closed-cell spray foam. From the first conversation to project completion, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They took the time to explain the differences between open-cell and closed-cell foam, answered all of our questions, and made sure we understood the process and benefits before getting started. The installation crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and left the property clean when they were finished. The quality of the work was excellent, and it’s clear they take pride in doing things the right way. We were especially impressed with their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction throughout the project. If you’re considering spray foam insulation for your attic, crawlspace, or entire home, I highly recommend Clark Spray Foam. Clark’s crew did an amazing job! We had an initial consultation and they immediately gave me a quote.. The quote was super fair and better than what I expected. They came in day of install and secured and taped off areas to protect the home from the removal of old insulation. They had a full crew for the job and they were not playing around. These guys got right to it and worked as hard as I have seen people work. They were crawling in tight spaces fully suited in protective gear in 130+ degree attic. My hats off to these 6 guys . I appreciate the hard work. After the job was complete they walked me thru to make sure I was happy with the job. GREAT JOB! you will definitely be a company I refer out. Clark Spray foam did an outstanding job! They showed up on time and addressed my concerns or any issues that came up. They were all minor, but you want the job done right, which they did. We are in the middle of a massive mold project and Clark Spray Foam came highly recommended from our new HVAC company. Mike and Austin’s team did a great job on phase 1 of our project. First part is installing unfaced batting in the walls. Attached is an idea of just a quarter of the amount of replacement they did! Lots of angled walls that are a bit awkward to work with and they nailed it. We are excited to start phase 2 with them once our ceilings have been rebuilt! :) I’ll update this review after that part and add more pics/videos!Posted on Google![]()

These guys were truly incredible. They were very professional and they knew what they were talking about. They came over and gave me an estimate. These guys were awesome. I called 4 companies to insulate my shed. I still haven't heard from one. The other 2 took forever and gave me crazy numbers. Clark called me by the end of the day and met me on site to quote it a day later. The price was better than the rest and he scheduled me on the spot. 8 days from request to final install. The installers banged it out in half a day and cleaned everything behind them. My wife actually went to the shed to make sure they had been on the property. The crew was clean and courteous. The salesman (Austin) called me later that day to make sure I was happy and everything went well. More contractors need to work this way. Thank you Clark!Posted on Google![]()

Insulation Removal FAQs
How do I know if my insulation needs to be removed?
Your insulation likely needs to be removed if it’s wet, moldy, contaminated by rodents or insects, or holding smoke or pet odors. Matted, crumbling or stained insulation is another sign. If the damage is limited to a few spots, targeted insulation repair may be enough, and an inspection will tell you which makes more sense.
What types of insulation can you remove?
We remove fiberglass, batt, cellulose and spray foam insulation. That covers what’s found in most attics, walls and crawl spaces in Jacksonville-area homes and commercial buildings. Each material comes out a little differently, and we’ll explain the approach for your space before any work begins.
Can you install new insulation after removal?
Yes, most of our removal projects finish with new insulation. We install spray foam, blown-in fiberglass and fiberglass batts, so we can recommend the right fit for each area instead of a one-size-fits-all answer. Having one crew handle both removal and reinsulation keeps the project simpler for you.
Should the cause of the damage be fixed before new insulation goes in?
Yes, whatever damaged your insulation should be fixed before new insulation is installed. That might mean repairing a roof or plumbing leak or sealing rodent entry points. Removal often makes these issues easier to spot, since the old insulation is no longer hiding them, so the order works out naturally: remove, fix, then reinsulate.
Will insulation removal make a mess in my home or business?
Insulation removal is dusty work, but our crew keeps it to the work area and cleans up before we leave. Customers often mention our clean job sites, professional crews and clear communication. Before we start, we’ll walk you through what to expect so there are no surprises.
How much does insulation removal cost?
The cost of insulation removal depends on the size of the area, the type and condition of the insulation, and what goes back in. Clark Spray Foam offers free quotes, and requesting your quote online takes 10% off the project. Financing is also available if you’d like to spread out the cost.
